Blowout of Pratt advances Trojans to quarterfinals
CCC plays Sunday after 103-82 win
Five players in double figures, including a triple-double from Ty Dalton, helped push the Colby Community College Trojans to a 103-82 win over Pratt in the first round of the Region VI playoffs Wednesday night at the Community Building.
Head coach Rusty Grafel was grateful for the home court support.
"Thanks to everyone that came out," he said. "It was a great environment and a great last home game for our guys!"
The contest was fast-paced throughout due to the full court press and quick offensive possessions of the Beavers.
"Pratt plays an up-tempo game where they want to score a lot, but they will allow you to score as well," Grafel said. "In the first 10 minutes of the second half I thought we executed our defensive plan to help us pull away."
The Trojans helped themselves by grabbing 21 of their 55 rebounds at the offensive end. CCC also notched 18 assists.
Dalton finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists.
"Ty had a great game finishing with a triple-double. He has great court vision, and last night he really stepped up for us on the glass," Grafel said.
David Hall had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Other Trojans scoring in double figures were Craig Beaudion (21), Christian Carmichael (18) and Gabriel Gyamfi (13).
"This team keeps setting new records for the program and new goals that they keep reaching," Grafel said. "We now have the opportunity to move on to our next goal which is a Region Six championship!"
Sunday in the quarterfinal match Colby plays Thursday's winner between Barton and Dodge City. In head-to-head competition this season the Trojans dropped both games to the Cougars and won both contests against the Conquistadors.
Tip-off Sunday is 5 p.m. at Hartman Arena in Park City.
