Johnson County advances to Plains District semifinal with 4-0 win over Central

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  The No. 7-ranked Johnson County women's soccer team scored three times in the first 20 minutes, then tacked on one more goal in the second half on their way to a 4-0 victory over Central in the first round of the Plains District Tournament. 

Sophomore forward Megan Everhart (McPherson, Kan.) scored what proved to be the game winning goal in the 10th minute off an assist from freshman midfielder Sydney Hammett (Lee's Summit, Mo.), her first of three assists on the day. 

Six minutes later JCCC went up 2-nil when Everhart fed freshman forward Jenna Knight (Edwardsville, Kan.) for her team leading ninth goal on the season, and in the 20th minute the put the match out of reach when Hammett and sophomore forward Emma Le (Independence, Mo.) hooked up for the third score. 

Johnson County closed out the scoring in the 60th minute with goal by freshman defender Montana-Rose Currey (Woongarrah, NSW, Australia) with Hammett assisting. She now is tied for the lead in the conference with 11 assists on the season. 

Freshman goalkeeper Frankie Williams (Manchester, England) earned the shutout, stopping the only shot she faced. She now stands 7-1-2 with six shutouts and goals against average of 0.60, second-best in the conference. 

Johnson County (14-2-2) will host No. 20 Allen Community College (9-4) on Saturday, October 28, at 2 p.m.  Allen edged Neosho County 1-0 in their first-round match to advance to the second round. The winner will advance to the Plains District Championship on Friday, November 3 and will face the winner of either Iowa Central Community College or Northeast Community College out of Region 11.
