Butler Grinds Out Win Over State Fair

EL DORADO, Kan. – The 14th-ranked Butler men's basketball team won its third straight game with a 65-54 win over State Fair CC on Wednesday evening at the Power Plant.

Butler (4-1) held State Fair (3-3) to just 36.2% shooting on the night as they impressed defensively all night. Butler outrebounded State Fair 39-24 with 20 of the Grizzly rebounds coming from sophomore forward Jamichael Stillwell who snagged 20 rebounds to go with 16 points and five assists.

Butler jumped out to an early 17-7 lead in the first half after Stillwell drained a three with 14:10 in the first half. State Fair battled back, tying the game at 19-19 as Cliff Barrow made a three with 9:19 in the half. The Grizzlies ultimately went into half with a 37-31 lead after a back-and-forth final nine minutes.

The Grizzlies held the lead for the entirety of the second half with the closest the Roadrunners got being 37-33 a minute into the half.

Sophomore guard AJ Williams led all scorers with 17 points, going 3-3 from beyond the arc. Charles McClennahan Jr. had eight points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Kaleb Washington totaled eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Grizzlies return to action on Saturday vs. NOC-Enid at the Power Plant with tipoff set for 4 p.m. following the Butler women. The game serves as the Grizzlies final non-conference game before KJCCC play begins on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Northwest Technical.
