PRATT, Kan. - Colby Community College came up short on the road at Pratt Community College 67-45 on Wednesday night. In the first half, the Trojans competed and attacked the basket; there was growth in execution and following an offensive game plan. The idea was to attack the lane and not settle for the 3s that have not been falling in previous games. The attacking style put the home Beavers on their heels and gave the Trojans better looks at the basket. Taking a four-point deficit to the half-time, there was a feeling of accomplishment.
As the third quarter began, the Trojans went away from their game plan, and two quick early 3s resulted in run-out fast breaks for the Beavers. From there, the Trojans were in a dog fight and again found themselves digging out of a hole.
Competing tough as they have done all season long, it was hard to get back on track and find that first-half groove. However, the attacking offensive approach resulted in free throws, but shooting only 44% proved to be the difference.
"I have always believed we could make shots on offense. The struggle we faced was our shot selection, which has proved to be weakness for us. Tonight, we did a much better job of attacking the basket and forcing them to play defense. The next step for us is to focus better and in longer stretches so we can become a better offensive team. We were getting to the foul line as a result of our offensive game plan, but when you shoot 44%, it kind of takes the wind out of your sails. We once again played a solid defensive game and made them search deeper in their shot clock and for other options to score. We are faced with the task of staying focused and working harder to take the next step forward. " stated Coach Spence.
The Trojans were led by Sofia Lopez, with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Noella Biduaya added 11 points, and Aryanna Perez proved six points.
Colby will return home for their final game of the fall semester on Sunday, December 10th, versus Cloud County at 2 pm CT.
