Looking to find some green grass to play on at the start of the baseball season the Highland baseball team after a doubleheader with State Fair travelled south to Gainesville, Texas to play a twinbill with North Central Texas College.
The Scotties were competitive in the matchups but struggled to find the offense falling 4-0 and 6-1 in the doubleheader moving to 0-4 on the season.
North Central Texas plated a run in the bottom of the first inning and added three more in the third for their runs, while the Scotties managed only one-hit in the contest struggling to get base runners in the matchup falling 4-0.
Jordan McClellan notched the only Scottie hit of the game, while on the mound Highland only gave up five hits but North Central capitalized on those hits along with six walks to score four runs. Jordan Wells took the loss in one and a third innings work, while
Dylan Arnett tossed two innings giving up three runs but struckout five and
Max Milligan three two and two-thirds innings.
Game two was much of the same for the Scotties as Highland's bats were quiet with only two hits but the Scotties did get on the board with a run in the Top of the fourth inning. North Central Texas tallied seven hits to produce six runs with one run in the first and second innings and four run bottom of the fourth.
McClellan and
Kenneth Vega each notched a hit in the loss, while McClellan scored the Scottie run and
Dalton Burt registered the RBI. On the mound the Scotties had five pitchers make appearances with Burt tossing two and one-third innings taking the loss.
As the Scotties look to continue their season Mother Nature continues to stall the team from having home games with the winter weather, thus leading the Scotties to cancel the game versus Concordia University JV that was scheduled for Tuesday, February 19
th. The next games on the schedule are slated for Thursday, February 21
st at home against Southwestern Community College for a doubleheader but the schedule is liking to change with the Scotties going on the road. Stay tuned to Highland social media and the website for updates.
