A penalty kick with ten seconds remaining provided the game winner Sunday in Overland Park as the 5th ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 heartbreak loss to 11th ranked Cowley College in the Region VI/Plains District Championship.

On a beautiful evening at the JCCC Soccer Field, Barton took the early lead with Cowley getting the equalizer two minutes left in the half. Headed for extra time, Barton fouled a Tiger player in the far corner of the box to set up the spot kick with ten seconds remaining providing the game winner.

After defeating Cowley twice in the regular season, the title loss drops Barton to 17-2-3 on the year and now must await a possible at-large bid for the national tournament while Cowley improves to 15-4 in advancing to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament next week in Wichita.

Augusto Militao's free kick 18-yard shaped strike through the Tiger wall put Barton out front early just 1:47 into the contest on his second bell ringer of the season.

The Tigers had numerous set piece opportunities throughout first half action, finally breaking through with 2:21 remaining off a corner kick.

Barton Scoring:
1:37 Augusto Militao (2)
