Blue Devils Complete Day One in Texas, 1-1

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team started their trip to Texas Feb. 16 by taking down the 19th ranked New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds with a final score of 6-0. The Blue Devil pitchers only let up three hits the entire game. Maclane Finley pitched the first six innings and let up three hits, one walk and had six total strikeouts. Will Bartkoski and Charlie Mosser completed the remaining three innings and did not let up a single hit along with two strikeouts.

Jackson Mervosh had two doubles and scored one run for the Blue Devils. Brady Kern was the other Blue Devil who had two hits and went 2-4 from the plate. Brady Patterson went 1-4 and scored a team-high three RBI's. The Blue Devils got walked nine times total along with seven strikeouts.

Following the decisive win against the Thunderbirds, KCKCC turned its attention to the Des Moines Area Community College Bears. However, the second game of the day was not what the Blue Devils were hoping for, falling to DMACC 4-3. Eight of the nine Blue Devil batters got walked against the Bears but could only connect three hits. Peyton Basler, Brady Patterson and Jackson Mervosh were the three Blue Devils who recorded hits and Patterson brought in two runs.

Mason Davenport pitched the first four innings on the game and let up five hits, two runs and recorded seven strikeouts. Weston Fries threw for 1.1 innings, let up two hits, one earned run and three strikeouts.
