Women stretch winning streak to 24 straight

The Highland Women's Basketball team continued their winning streak this past weekend on the road with an 87-54 win over No. 23 ranked Kansas City Kansas Community College.
 
Kansas City Kansas trailed by one point with 4:47 to play in the first quarter but a 20-8 Highland run in the final four minutes gave the Scotties the advantage after the first quarter leading 27-14.
 
The Highland defense forced eight second quarter turnovers and won the quarter 15-10 and extended their lead 42-24 at the half.
 
Highland controlled the third and fourth quarters dominating the Blue Devils on both sides of the floor and coasting to an 87-54 victory.
 
Mariane De Caravalho led all scorers in the contest scoring 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kamryn Lemon had a hot night shooting setting a new career high, five three-pointers and scoring 16 points. Berniezha Tidwell had a strong all-around performance scoring 14 points, five assists and five steals. Niccolly Ramalho and Sydney Brinlee both finished with eight points and seven rebounds apiece.
 
The No. 3 ranked Scotties continued to showcase their tenacious defense forcing the Blue Devils into 36 turnovers in the game. Highland used their defense to create offense scoring 47 of their 87 points off Blue Devil turnovers.
 
Highland is now 24-0 on the season, 3-0 in KJCCC play and 4-0 in Region VI play. The Scotties will look to continue their winning ways as they host back to back home games this week with Fort Scott Wednesday night at 5:30pm and Labette on Saturday at 1:00pm.
