Highland Battles Back to Top Grand View JV

The #2 Highland women's basketball team remains unbeaten on the season but the last three wins haven't come easy for the Scotties including the 92-78 win at home against Grand View University JV on Friday night. The win pushes Highland to 9-0 on the season.

After establishing the initial lead of the game the Scotties saw the game tied at 9-9 with 4:40 remaining in the first quarter and then Grand View took their first lead at 12-11 at the 4:12 mark in the first quarter. The Vikings grabbed the lead again at 14-13 with 54 seconds left in the first quarter and would hold the lead for quite some time leading 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Grand View also as they were able to get good looks and force some Scottie turnovers and headed into halftime Highland trailed 38-35, going down by as many as eight points in the first half.

Scotties made advances in the second half trying to take the lead back but only manage to just tie the game a couple of times in the third quarter until late in the third flipping the lead back in their favor and holding the 65-62 advantage after three quarters. Highland than finished the game solidly with a 27-16 fourth quarter to secure the win as the Scotties took take of the ball with only five second half turnovers helping them earn the 92-78 win.

Highland shot well from the floor in the win shooting 49.2% from the field giving them their eighth game out of nine this season shooting over 40% as a team. Scotties also recorded 19 steals and won the rebound margin by nine, while also going 25-31 from the free throw line.

Stefania Chiziane fresh off a career high against MCC posted a new career best in the win over Grand View scoring 28 points on 9-13 shooting and 10-13 from the charity stripe, while adding five rebounds and three steals. Janiya Davis matched her career high in college with her best showing as a Scottie scoring 24 points on 9-16 shooting and 5-5 from the free throw line. Davis added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Armani Turner and Tuana Dinc each chipped in double figures for the Scotties also in the win as Turner tallied 14 points and Dinc posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds along with four steals.
