William's Walk-Off Lifts Scotties to 8-7 Victory over T-Birds

An exciting late surge of runs took place at the Highland Community Ballpark on Tuesday afternoon with the Scotties hosting the Cloud County TBirds. Highland was down four runs throughout the first five innings but kept the bats going to steal the win 8-7.

 
Cloud County took an early lead in the first and second inning scoring four runs on three hits. Tyler Watson hit an RBI, scoring Procopio on a fielder's choice followed by a sacrifice fly by Fiene to close the gap 2-4.

 
With Blake Van Hercke on the mound throughout 3.2 innings throwing five strikeouts, Tony Horn came in in the top of the 4th. Scotties gave up two runs on a couple errors giving the TBirds a 6-2 lead that stayed with the help of a double-play in the top of the 5th by the Scotties which gave the home team some momentum.

 

Watson stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 6th hitting a 2 RBI single to center field. Cloud answered with one more score in the top of the 7th. Jared Wells came in to pitch the final two innings throwing four strike-outs, giving up 0 hits or runs.

 

Ballard started the final big moments of the game with a two home run over the left field wall in the 7th leaving the Scotties only down one run.

 

An intense start in the bottom of the 9th saw a line drive by Ballard go passed the short stop for a single with two on base and two outs. Dalton Burt reached first base on a close throw by the short stop, scoring Josue Ortiz to tie the game 7-7.

 
On the next pitch, freshman Tanner Williams hit a walk-off single to to left field to defeat the T-Birds 8-7 and finish the game with a bench clearing celebration by the Scotties.

 

The team is now 5-3 and will travel to Neosho County CC to start conference play on Thursday, March 1st with the first throw slated for 1:00PM.
