Blue Devils Have Impressive Outing in Tennessee with Wins Over Heartland and NW Mississippi, 14-2 and 8-6

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (10-2) took down Heartland who was ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA DII Preseason Poll and Northwest Mississippi 14-2 and 8-6 Mar. 1 in Millington, Tenn. You can find updated rankings every Tuesday at https://www.njcaa.org/sports/bsb/rankings/index. 

In the first game, the Blue Devils lit up Heartland at the plate tallying 16 hits and scoring 14 runs before ending the game early due to mercy rule in the sixth inning. Brady Patterson had a home run while going 3 for 3 at the plate, scoring four RBIs and two runs. Gehrig Goldbeck also had three hits and brought in three RBIs, scoring one run. Brady Kern went 2 for 3 while tallying two RBIs and scoring twice. Maclane Finley threw for three innings letting up three hits and two runs. He walked three players but also struck out three. Mason Davenport came in and threw for two innings only letting up one hit and striking out three Heartland batters. Will Bartoski threw in the sixth inning and added one strikeout.

 

In the second game, Jase Woita brought in a career-high six RBIs off two home runs. Woita also scored three runs for the Blue Devils while Brady Kern and Marcus Dierks each had two hits. Jackson Mervosh had one hit but got walked twice and scored two runs. Aaron Lewis dominated from the mound not letting up a single run for the four innings of work. He only let up three hits and tallied four strikeouts. Donovan Johnson entered in the fifth inning and let up three runs from three hits. Weston Fries, Dalton Smith and Caleb Reed would throw for the remaining three innings, and they added for three hits, four walks and one strikeout.

 

The next game for the Blue Devils is against the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Wolves at 1 p.m. Mar. 5 at Creekside in Kansas City, Mo.
