Behind strong second and third quarters the Highland women's basketball team cruises to 3-0 record by picking up 106-35 win in home opener over University of St. Mary JV.

After trading the first two buckets St Mary JV held a brief early lead but it didn't last long as the Scotties worked the lead to double figures at 17-6 with 4:15 left in the first quarter leading to a Spires timeout. By the end of the first quarter Highland led 25-12.

That lead grew exponentially holding St Mary JV scoreless for a good portion of the frame and ultimately outscoring them 26-10 to lead 51-22 at halftime.
Coming out of halftime the Scotties picked up the intensity racking up the turnovers on St Mary JV and converting them into points all the way to a 37-4 third quarter and then the Scotties finished out the game surpassing the century mark claiming the 106-35 win.

Scottie defense forced 46 turnovers on the night notching 31 steals and in turn got plenty of looks at the rim shooting 61.2% from the floor on the night. Sophomore, Daisah Purnell led the way with a career high 22 points on 9-16 shooting and added eight steals in the win. Five other ladies tallied double figures in matchup, also as Tiana Gipson dropped 17 points and both Janiya Davis and Tymia Wallace each tallied 14 points. Stefania Chiziane chipped in 11 points and both Tuana Dinc and Armani Turner each scored 10 points.

The win moves Highland to 3-0 to open the 2018-19 season. Highland will be back in action again on Wednesday, November 14^th at home when they host Friends University JV at 6:00pm. (Game will be broadcasted on the Scottie Sports Network)
