It was a display of offense on Sunday for the #8 Highland softball team in Iola, Kansas as they took on Allen County in a Conference doubleheader.
The Scotties registered 27 runs on 23 hits and earned a pair of five inning run-rule wins 13-3 and 14-0 over Allen County on the road to move their win streak to four and improve to 16-6 on the season and 6-2 in KJCCC action.
Spear heading the Scotties offense on the day was the play of freshman,
Chevelle Sartin who was 6-7 at the plate with four home runs, two doubles, five runs scored and 12 RBI's.
Game 1 at Allen County
Highland rolled out the offense in the first inning against Allen County as
Isabella Konieczka drew a walk to lead off the game and
Allyssa Griggs delivered a RBI double to get the Scotties on the board and Highland added another going up 2-0. In the top of the second
Chevelle Sartin blasted her first of four home runs on the day as she hit a three-run homer and the Scotties tacked on another for a four spot in the second. Allen County scratched a run in the second third and fourth innings, while the Scotties scored three more in the fourth behind another Sartin homer. A four run top of the fifth helped the Scotties secure the win winning 13-3 by run-rule in five innings over Allen County.
Scotties notched 11 hits and were led by Sartin who was 3-3 with seven RBI's, two home runs, three runs scored and a double.
Alexis Hodapp was 3-4 with three RBI's and a run scored, while Konieczka scored three runs and drew three walks on the day. In the circle
Bailey Lacy picked up her seventh win tossing all five innings giving up three runs on six hits and no walks, while striking out three.
Game 2 at Allen County
Highland took the early lead with a run in the first and second innings but only led 2-0 through three innings against Allen County. The offense let loose for the Scotties in the fourth and fifth innings as Highland scored five and seven runs, respectively. A three-run homer by Sartin helped the Scotties tally five runs in the fourth, while in the seven-run fifth Sartin tattooed another ball for a home run, while
Elizabeth Hays had a two RBI hit and
Lora Shinn added an RBI hit, also. The Scotties secured the shutout win 14-0 in five innings to sweep Allen County.
Sartin once again paced Highland at the plate as the Scotties recorded 12 hits as a team and Chevelle was 3-4 with five RBI's, two home runs, a double and two runs scored. Hays went 2-3 at the plate with three RBI's and two runs scored, while Konieczka and
Hannah Schmidt each scored a pair of runs.
Kelly Uthe picked up the win inside the circle tossing four innings without giving up a run and surrendered just four hits and one walk, while
Sarah Bond toss the final inning.
Scotties have another busy week ahead as they will travel to Iowa Western for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2
nd starting at 2:00pm, while the Scotties will then host Coffeyville on Thursday, April 4
th for a doubleheader starting at 2:00pm. Highland will wrap up the week in Arkansas City, Kansas against Cowley in a doubleheader slated to start at 1:00pm.
