For the fourth straight year the 8th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team scored an opening round victory in the Plains District/Region VI Playoffs defeating Coffeyville Community College 3-0 Friday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Moving to 13-1-3 on the season, the top seeded Cougars advance to host the Plains District/Region VI semifinals tentatively scheduled for Thursday against 18th ranked Butler Community College (10-5-5) after upending 16th ranked Hutchinson Community College 2-0. The Red Ravens have their season come to an end at 5-14-0.

Benefitting behind a 25-30mph wind in the opening stanza, Barton would encounter Coffeyville's pack it in defensive gameplan. Producing all five set pieces in the first frame, the Cougars struck for first blood with 26:06 remaining on Rin Sato's ninth setup of the season locating Nina Norshie for an easy backside tap-in.

Norshie grew Barton's lead 13:55 into the second half cleaning up her initial blocked shot attempt before putting the final touches on the victory recording her 11th career hat-trick rebounding Yulisa Valdez' redirected shot attempt with 2:32 remaining.

The Cougar defensive line of Siaomee Bagnost, Hinata Kojima, OceAne Deslauriers, Alissa Rainon, and Leticia Silva limited the Red Ravens to just four shots in helping Mio Tanaka to her fourth shutout of the season.
