Softball Has Offensive Explosion in Sweep of Garden City

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Butler softball exploded for 45 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Garden City Broncbusters at the Tangeman Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Grizzlies (9-1, 2-0 KJCCC) earned two wins over Garden City (2-12, 0-2) in the first conference action of the season for either team. The 27 runs scored for Butler in the second game is the most scored by a Grizzly squad since March 6th, 2018, as they defeated Dodge City 30-2 at East Park.

The Grizzlies return to action on Monday as they travel to Neosho, MO, for a non-conference doubleheader with Crowder College.

Game 1: Butler 18, Garden City 6

Butler took down Garden City 18-6 in a five-inning run rule. They used a nine run third inning to put the Broncbusters away for Butler's first conference win of the season.

Chloe Odle (W, 3-1) picked up the win in the circle for Butler as she tossed 3.0 shutout innings allowing a lone hit and striking out seven.

Six different Grizzlies finished with multiple hits as Butler out-hit Garden 21-5. Kim Yepez had a monster game at the plate finishing with three hits, five runs driven in and three runs scored. She hit two home runs in the game.

Butler hit seven home runs in the game as Yepez hit two and Cady Dickey, Aly Hageman, Mallory Young, Alivia Darbe and Madison Montgomery all slugged one each.

Game 2: Butler 27, Garden City 0

The Grizzlies continued the domination in game two with a 27-0 shellacking of the Broncbusters.

Eight different Grizzlies had two-plus hits and Addy Ewing and Lena Walter combined to hold Garden City scoreless in the circle.

Hageman and Darbe each launched two home runs in the game while Caylee Mann, Madison Nightingale, Madison Montgomery and Yepez also went yard.

Butler scored 15 runs in the second inning to pull away.
