Lady Pirates Softball Split Season Opening Double Header

Lady Pirate's softball got their season started Tuesday on a beautiful day at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  They took the win in the opener 5-0 but fell in the second game 11-1.  "Overall I was pleased for the first two games of the season," commented first year softball coach Steve Richman.

"In game one, I thought we played very well.  Our pitching was sharp, defense was sharp and our hitting came through when we needed it to," remarked Coach Richman of his team's efforts.  Allison Hilsabeck pitched a complete game shutout allowing 3 hits while striking out 2 for the win.  Centerfielder Jessica Stupar led the offense going 3-4 and driving in 2 of the team's 5 runs.

"For game two, we mixed things up a little bit and didn't play as well.  We had trouble finding the strike zone as well as made some errors and a lack of offensive power led to a poor game," remarked Richman of the lesser performance in game 2.  Stupar took the loss, giving up 5 earned runs on 3 hits, 8 walks, and 1 HBP.  Offensively, Jaclyn Weydert scored the lone run while going 1-2 in the game.

The next action for the Lady Pirates will be Sunday, February 26th as they travel to Marshall, MO to take on Missouri Valley College JV.
