Kansas City Kansas Community College's young women's soccer team has quickly learned the secret to success - don't let an opponent score.

The Blue Devils posted their second shutout in two Jayhawk Conference starts Saturday, blanking Dodge City 2-0. The Blue Devils (3-0) have now outscored their three foes 10-1.

Cora Ellerman, a freshman forward from Germany, came off the bench to score both goals for the Blue Devils. Her first came with 35:52 gone in the first half on an assist from Jaycee Schumann, a freshman from Topeka Seaman. The second came 11:39 into the second half on as an assist from yet another freshman, defender Laura Ginguene.

The two goals were more than enough for the KCKCC defense, which allowed the Conquistadors just four shots and only two on goal against Blue Devil goalkeeper Karli Angle, a sophomore from Liberty North.

"I was very pleased with our defense giving up just one goal so far," said KCKCC Coach Shawn Uhlenhake. "We talk a lot about it. Karli had a real good save in the second half, and Ann Boehnlein had a big deflection inside the box. Also, we were able to get in a lot of players again which speaks to the depth of our roster."

In addition to Angle, Ginguene and Boehnlein, a freshman from Lee's Summit North, other defensive stalwarts included Brazilian sophomore Malu Roche and freshman Noelia Cruz of Topeka Hayden.

The Blue Devils go back on the road Wednesday for their toughest test yet, a 6 p.m. duel with No. 6 ranked Butler County in El Dorado.
