Lakers Split on weekend
The Iowa Lakes Men's Basketball team moved to 3-2 on the season after splitting at the Johnson County Classic this weekend.

In their first game of the weekend the Lakers would face 11th ranked Johnson County. The Lakers would fall to Johnson County 67-66.

The Lakers were led by Sam West. West would score 17 points and grab 7 rebounds. Kai Evans would add 14 points and Benard Omooria would add 12.

Johnson County was led by Massi Malterer with 17 points.

Laker Head Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. "Our defensive effort was phenomenal we really guarded but we have to a better job rebounding the ball, and we can't turn it over 18 times. With that being said our defense kept us in the game and we had a chance to win it late, we just didn't make the shot."

In their second game of the weekend the Lakers would take on Highland Kansas. The Lakers would respond with an 84-66 win.

The Lakers got another outstanding performance from Sam West who would have 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kai Evans, however, would lead the way with 18 points. Jhordan Ryan would chip in with 14 points.

Highland was led by Chris Flippin with 16 points.

Lakers Head Coach Jason McKinney had this to say about the game. " Our defense was solid again tonight, we did a great job on the glass, and we didn't turn the ball over. Our bench guys really gave us a good lift in the first half to stretch the lead to double figures. Really proud of how this group responded after a tough loss. "

The Lakers will next travel to Marshalltown next weekend to take part of the Emerson Classic. The Lakers will play Bryant and Stratton (WI) on Friday at 3, and Rock Valley College on Saturday at 3.
