KCKCC Men ‘Get Out of Dodge’ with a 2-2 Tie

Men's Soccer vs Barton

A late goal enabled Dodge City to escape with a 2-2 tie with Kansas City Kansas Community College in Dodge City Sunday.

The tie enabled Dodge City (3-3-2) to maintain a slim lead over KCKCC (2-3-3) in their battle for third place in the Jayhawk Conference. The Blue Devils, who are 3-3-3 overall, resume conference action at 7 p.m. Saturday when they travel to Coffeyville. They return home to host Barton Oct. 11.

Sunday's clash was the second between the two teams - Dodge City (6-3-2) won 2-1 at KCKCC earlier this season.

The Conquistadors needed only 5:05 to take a 1-0 lead with Crescenzo Christian scoring on an unassisted transition goal. KCKCC pulled even seven minutes later on a free kick by David Rivera, a freshman from J.C. Harmon.

Still deadlocked at halftime, KCKCC went ahead 2-1 just six minutes into the second half, the goal coming on a well-placed pass from freshman Matthew Jackson behind the Dodge defense to a sprinting Jacob Thomas, an Olathe Northwest sophomore who blasted in the go-ahead goal. Dodge City's game-tying goal came at 74:48 on a low cross by Andres Rocha assisted by Christian.

Statistically, the two teams were almost even. Dodge had 15 shots, seven on goal while KCKCC had 12 shots, six on goal. Franco Briani Brunoro had five saves in goal for KCKCC.
