Lady Tigers blast six home runs in sweep of Dodge City

The No. 20-ranked Cowley College softball team hit six home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Dodge City on Wednesday in Arkansas City. The Lady Tigers hit four home runs in the 20-17 win of game one before launching two more long balls in an 8-0 win of the nightcap.

In Wednesday's opener, the teams combined for nine home runs, and the Conquistadors held leads of 4-0, 11-6, and 17-11 before Cowley was able to win the game on a three-run walk-off home run hit by freshman Lyric Perry.

Andrea Kaffure hit two home runs, while Raelynn Sandlin and Shayne Roberts added two-run homers. Freshman Kanon Goji went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, while Paige Scanlin and Perry added three hits apiece.

Dodge City starting pitcher Toni Gabaldon allowed 19 hits, five home runs, and 18 earned runs in six innings pitched. Gabaldon hit one of Dodge City's five home runs in the loss.

Cowley led 1-0 in game two before scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shayne Roberts' three-run homer highlighted the inning. Then, freshman Alissa Nuno hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game in a run-rule.

Jaiden Swanson (7-2) earned the win on the mound for the Tigers, allowing three hits and no runs in five innings pitched. Camryn Lenz (0-1) took the loss for Dodge City, allowing nine hits and eight runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Goji completed a perfect doubleheader at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a run batted in, while Emily Louderback went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Cowley, winners of three games in a row, improves its record to 13-4. Dodge City falls to 0-10.

Cowley will travel to Temple, Texas, to play a doubleheader against NJCAA Division I No. 4-ranked Odessa College (9-5) on Saturday before playing a pair of games against Temple College (19-1) on Sunday. Games begin at noon on both days.
