Lady Blue Devils Advance to Semifinals with Win Over Hesston, 84-60

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (21-9, 8-4) crushed Hesston College (11-17, 1-11), 84-60 Mar. 4 at MCC-Penn Valley. The Lady Blue Devils advance to the KJCCC semifinals and will take on No. 2 Allen at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson County Community College.

Victoria Jones led the charge for the Lady Blue Devils contributing 16 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals during her 39 minutes on the court. Jada Johnson added 11 points and six rebounds, and Kaylyn Rogers made her presence felt with 16 points and three rebounds. Symiah Bradley put up an impressive double double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Her stellar performance also included two assists, one steal and one block. Sarah Khamis chipped in seven points and four assists over 25 minutes. Off the bench, Ti'Ye Davis tallied two points and one assist in just seven minutes of action. Bennett Peck contributed six points and two rebounds, while Jailynn Schmaltz made significant contributions with 10 points and a team-high 18 rebounds.

Norika Welch led the charge for the Hesston Larks, showcasing an impressive performance with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 25 minutes of play. Kelsey Koza added 18 points and four rebounds, while Kaley Phillips contributed 11 points and five. Off the bench, the reserves provided some additional support, with Harley Drouillard and Ashleigh Williams each contributing two points in limited playing time.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 43.8 percent from the field (32-73), 29.2 percent from three-point range (7-24) and 61.9 percent from the free-throw line (13-21). The Larks shot 32.8 percent from the field (22-67), 32 percent from three-point range (8-25) and 53.3 percent from the free-throw line (8-15).
