Knights drop two in Kansas

The North Platte Community College volleyball team played in Overland Park, Kan. Saturday against NJCAA DII no. 20 team, Kansas City Kansas Community College, and no. 1 team, Johnson County Community College.

The Knights were up against Kansas City Kansas CC first and lost in four sets. The final scores were 18-25, 16-25, 26-24, and 21-25.

Sophomore Morgan Ramsey led the game with 12 kills followed by Karley Spillane (So.) with eight, Emily Johnson (Fr.) with seven, and Tyrah Woods (Fr.) with six. Sophomore Tessa Metschke achieved 14 digs and four aces, and Freshman Whitney Chintala had 12 digs. Freshman Avah Steggall contributed 33 assists and 12 digs in this match.

"We knew we would see two tough teams today," said head coach Alexa McCall. "I thought we played well against Kansas City Kansas CC and we saw some glimpses of what we can do."

The Knights then faced Johnson County CC and lost in three sets. The final scores were 22-25, 10-25, and 13-25.

Spillane led this match with seven kills, followed by Ramsey with six. Steggall had 15 assists and seven digs this match. 

"We just have to find a way to be more consistent," said McCall. "In set one against Johnson County CC we pushed them, but just couldn't get out of serve receive in sets two and three."

This put NPCC volleyball at 6-13 on the season. Kansas City Kansas CC is 13-3, and Johnson County CC is undefeated at 23-0 on the season.

Up Next: NPCC will return home Wednesday, Sept. 28 to face Southeast Community College at 6 p.m. for Faculty Appreciation Night. Southeast CC is 0-1 in the conference and 4-17 overall so far this season.
