Jada Johnson leads Lady Blue Devils to Victory Over Hesston, 74-52

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (16-7, 4-2) defeated the Hesston College Larks (11-10, 1-5), 74-52 Feb. 3 in Hesston, Kan. The Lady Blue Devils are now in a three-way tie for second place in the KJCCC with Allen and Neosho. Johnson County is currently sitting in first place with a 6-0 conference record.

Kansas City's offense was led by Jada Johnson who had an impressive 32 points, showcasing efficiency with a 12-of-20 shooting performance. Johnson was also a threat from beyond the arc, hitting five 3-pointers while also bringing down eight rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kaylyn Rogers contributed a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, providing a strong presence on both ends of the court. This is her second double double on the season. Symiah Bradley added 13 points and made an impact on the boards with four rebounds. For the second consectuive game, Victoria Jones came away with more than 10 assists.

Kaley Phillips led Hesston in scoring with 24 points, showcasing a strong performance from the free-throw line (7-of-11) and contributing five rebounds. Norika Welch nailed two 3-pointers and finished the day with 10 points. There were no other Larks that finished in double figures. Kelsey Koza had five points, three assists and one steal. Both, Harley Drouillard and Mariah Hall tallied four points and added five rebounds, three assists and one steal.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 47.5 percent from the field (28-59), 33.3 percent from three-point range (8-24) and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line (10-15). The Larks shot 30.5 percent from the field (18-59), 30 percent from three-point range (6-20) and 58.8 percent from the free-throw line (10-17). The Lady Blue Devils outrebounded the Larks 41 to 27 and obtained a huge lead of 25 points at one point in the game.

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Neosho County Community College Panthers at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at MCC-Penn Valley.
