GOODLAND, Kan. - The Colby Community College women's basketball team picked up the road victory 75-69 over Northwest Kansas Technical College on Wednesday night. The Trojans got a much-needed conference win, snapping a 32-game dry spell in KJCCC action. Traveling to Goodland to take on the Northwest Tech Mavericks, the Trojans would be put to the test.
If there was a way to win the game, this was it. Playing with several players in early foul trouble, the depth was tested, and the bench came through quickly. With four players scoring double figures, the Trojans kept at it and competed for 40 minutes. Having to fight through foul trouble and first-half turnovers, Colby found enough points to go with their always-tough defense. A back-and-forth first half saw lead changes and several free throws, making it a rough game with little flow.
The Trojans came out in the fourth quarter and found the rhythm to take the lead for good and pull out the win. "This was a big win for our players and this program. With a long dry spell in Jayhawk conference games, we wanted to stop that negative streak and get the program moving forward. I'm proud of our players for how they weathered the storm, facing foul trouble throughout the game. The whistles came early, and neither team could get a rhythm going, which made for a somewhat ugly game. We found a way to get the win that speaks to this group's resiliency. We now need to keep growing and competitor." Stated Coach Spence.
On Saturday, the Trojans will travel to Seward County to take on the Lady Saints at 4 p.m. CT.
