Late goal from Kilden leads No. 7 Butler Soccer to a draw in season opener at No. 8 Seminole State

SEMINOLE, Okla. – A late goal from freshman forward Ruby Kilden with seven minutes remaining led No. 7 ranked Butler to a 2-2 draw with No. 8 ranked Seminole State in the Grizzlies season opener.

Butler (0-0-1) was trailing 2-1 with seven minutes remaining in the match when Kilden (Harwich, England) planted and kicked from the left side of the arc. The ball hit the Trojan (0-0-1) goalie's hands, bounced off and went in to eventually force the draw in the NJCAA top 10 matchup.

Butler had two more shots on goal throughout the final seven minutes, including a corner kick, but were unable to break the tie.

Seminole State got the scoring started with 19 minutes remaining in the first half, taking the 1-0 lead. They carried that lead all the way to halftime.

Butler notched its first goal of the season with 40:46 remaining in the first half as sophomore forward Brooke Sullivan (Goddard, KS) tapped the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Emma Kolbe (Mulvane, KS) to tie the match at one apiece.

The Trojans regained the lead 2-1 with 39 minutes left.

SSC received a yellow card for knocking down Sullivan with 34:56 left. Sakiko Manabe (Tanabe, Japan) took the penalty kick for Butler but missed left.

The Grizzlies now turn their attention to the home opener at BG Products Veteran Sports Complex on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. CT vs. Coffeyville. The match will have live stats and a live stream available, with links to each on the Butler women's soccer schedule page.
