Lady Blue Devils Start Conference Play with Monster Win Against Neosho, 86-64

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team (14-5) defeated Neosho County Community College (13-5), 84-68 Jan. 13 in Chanute, Kan. Jada Johnson led the Lady Blue Devils with a 35 point and 11 rebound double double. She also led the team in steals (5) and had five assists.

Kaylyn Rogers had a season-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, her first double double of the season. Victoria Jones had eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal. Jailynn Schmaltz came off the bench and finished with nine points, nine rebounds and seven assists (team high). Sarah Khamis went 2-3 from behind the arc and ended with eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

The Panthers had 25 steals as a team and had a total of 15 players participate in Saturday's game. Natalie Mesa came off the bench and led the Panthers with 13 points, three rebounds and one assist. Cayanna Stanley had seven points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists. Myah Coleman and Toriauna Douglass both finished with seven points each and combined for seven rebounds and three steals. Defensively, Jahniya Brown led with seven steals and seven rebounds.

For the game, the Lady Blue Devils shot 46 percent from the field (29-63), 35.3 percent from three-point range (6-17) and 69 percent from the free-throw line (20-29). The Panthers shot 25.5 percent from the field (24-94), 16.2 percent from three-point range (6-37) and 70 percent from the free-throw line (14-20).

The next game for the Lady Blue Devils is against the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers at 6 p.m. Jan. 17 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.
