#8 Scotties Split with #12 Cavaliers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Highland Scotties hosted the #12 Johnson County Cavaliers after going 5-1 over a three day spread the weekend before and a rain delay. Johnson took a lead late in the first game and the Scotties had opportunities to take it back but came up short losing 5-8. The second showing was a flip-flop of scores with Highland scoring 8 runs to the Cavaliers 5 to take the victory and split on the day.

Game one:
The first two innings were quick and uneventful for both teams. The Cavaliers started off the scoring in the 3rd with an RBI single to left field but the Scotties answered back with an RBI double by Sam Moran, scoring Donaldson to tie the game 1-1.

Sydney Anderson hit her 16th double of the season to lead off the in the bottom of the 4th. Aubry Hernandez switched Anderson spots with an RBI double to right center to give the Scotties a 2-1 lead. Hodapp hit the teams 3rd double in the same inning to score Hernandez; leading 3-1. Sammi Bates, Johnson County, tied the game back up 3-3 with two more runs scored in the top of the fifth; forcing a pitching change for the Scotties: Julisa Ortega in for Kelly Uthe.

Anderson approached the plate ready to protect to home field hitting a sky high 2 run home in the top of the 5th to tie up the game 5-5. Three more runs by the Cavaliers, with the Scotties unable to answer, gave the victory 8-5 to Johnson County.

Game two:
The Scotties first at bat of the game in the bottom of the 1st, Kendra Baldridge walked but was not on base long scoring off a homerun by Hernandez taking an early 2-0 lead. Alexis Hodapp stepped up to the plate to lead off in the 2nd and hit a deep, bomb over the center field house for her 4th homerun of the season giving the Scotties a 3-0 early lead.

Johnson County put two runs of the board in the 3rd and Anderson scores on a wild pitch, score now 4-2 with HCC leading. Hodapp stayed hot with a double leading off in the bottom of the 4th, followed by a triple by Kami Zimmerman, eventually scoring, helping a 6-2 lead.

Hodapp and Zimmerman both produced RBI's after a 3rd run by the Cavs. Highland would eventually take the second game 8-3 to split on the day.

The Scotties are now 20-5 overall and 11-3 in conference play. They will host Cloud County CC on Wednesday, April 4th with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00PM.
