Highland Men Secure Win Over Hesston in Conference Clash

The #3 Highland Men's basketball team used a late run to finish the game strong and return to the win column on Wednesday night gaining the 83-66 win over Hesston.

The win moves the Scotties to 20-2 on the season giving Highland their third straight year with 20+ wins under Coach Jerre Cole. While the Scotties moved to 2-1 in KJCCC play and won their fifth straight over Hesston and 15th straight home game.

After the initial score of the game by Hesston the Scotties took the lead after the next two buckets and led 29-21 with 8:42 left in the first. The lead grew to double figures with 4:40 remaining in the first half and worked to as high as 12 but Hesston drew within eight by halftime at 45-37.

The lead with stay single digits for a good portion of the second half with the Larks drawing within one possession multiple times until Highland went a 16-2 run over the final six and half minutes of the game to secure the 83-66 win.

For 12th time this season Highland shot over 50% in a game going 55.2% from the floor and matchup a season high in blocks with seven as a team, while holding their 15th different opponent this year to under 40% shooting (34.8%).

A trio of double figure scorers led Highland including 25 points from Taiveyhon Mason good for his 12th 20+ point performance this season. Mason added five rebounds and five assists, while Jaquan Daniels had a pair of electrifying dunks notched 16 points and added five rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks. DJ Doakes chipped in 14 points on 5-7 shooting in the win.

Highland wraps up a week stretch with their fourth game during that time on Saturday, February 2nd as they travel to Kansas City, Kansas to take on Kansas City Kansas Community College at 4:00pm.
