Blue Devils Cruise by Saint Mary with 86-57 Win in Season Opener

Blue Devils offense was led by sophomore, Jada Johnson who scored 31 points with nine rebounds. Symiah Bradley tallied 19 points with eight rebounds helping the Blue Devil women's basketball team to an 86-57 victory over the Saint Mary Spires in their 2023-24 season opener.

 

The Blue Devils (1-0) are scheduled to face the Iowa Western Reivers (0-0) at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley.

 

A sophomore from Kansas City, Mo., Johnson went 12-for-20 from the floor, and 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. Along with her 31 points, Johnson also managed to get six steals on the night. 

 

For the game, the Blue Devils shot 46.4 percent from the field (32-for-69) but were just 25 percent (2-of-8) from beyond-the-arc and 64.5 percent (20-of-31) at the free-throw line.

 

Saint Mary shot 38.5 percent from the field (20-for-52), 36 percent (9-of-25) from beyond-the-arc and just 50 percent (8-of-16) at the free-throw line. The Spires had a team total 32 turnovers.

 

The Spires offense was led by Addison Schletzbaum who had 18 points and Tatum Studer who had 17 points and shot 5-of-9 from three.
