Highland Women Cruise Past Hesston In Conference Showdown

It didn't take long for the #3 Highland Women's basketball team to get back into the win column as the Scotties rolled to the win over Hesston 110-39 on Wednesday night.

The Scotties victory moved them to 18-2 on the season and 2-1 in KJCCC action, while moving their win streak at home to 34th straight games and also giving them their 17th straight win over Hesston. The win also kept Coach BJ Smith unbeaten against the Larks in his career moving to 16-0.

After a 4-0 start to the game Hesston posted a 6-0 run to take a 6-4 lead but the Scotties answered quickly regaining the lead and holding it the rest of the way. Lead grew to double figures at 16-6 with 2:12 left in the first and Highland led 25-6 at the end of the first quarter. By halftime Highland held a 48-16 advantage behind a 23-10 second quarter.

The second half was much of the same as Highland cruised past Hesston leading 84-34 after three quarters and hitting the century mark with 4:08 left in the game giving the Scotties their seventh game with 100+ points and ultimately leading to the 110-39 win.

Scotties shot 51.2% from the floor recording 26 assists on 43 made field goals in the contest, while coming up with 31 steals and forcing 43 turnovers. Highland did struggle with turnovers of their own with 21.

Seven double figure scorers led Highland marking the Scotties second game this season with seven double figure scorers. Janiya Davis led Highland with 17 points adding seven rebounds, while Tuana Dinc tallied 16 points, with four rebounds and five steals. Khaliah Hines scored a career high 14 points adding four rebounds and had three steals.

Tiana Gipson who got her first start posted 13 points adding six assists and four steals. Daisah Purnell had 13 points and a career high nine rebounds and added seven steals. Erin Randle recorded her second double figure performance of the season posting a career high 11 points, while Stefania Chiziane had 10 points.
