Harrell has seven hits in Bulldogs split

 

Mississippi Gulf Coast bounced back from a loss in Friday's first game in the Mardi Gras Invitational to win in a big way. The Bulldogs blasted Pratt 13-3 in five innings in Youngsville, La.

National Park defeated Gulf Coast 5-2 in the first game of the day.

Jett Harrell (So., Clarksdale/Lee Academy) had seven hits, and she drove in four runs against Pratt. She had hits in all four at-bats against the Nighthawks and went 3-for-5 against the Beavers.

Jorja Roberson (So., Branyan/East Union) hit a grand slam in the first inning against Pratt. The Bulldogs blew open the game with a six-run fourth.

Olivia Falcon (Fr., St. Amant, La./St. Amant) got the win, allowing two hits in four innings. She struck out three.

In the opener, Harrell went 4-for-4 and scored both runs, but the Bulldogs managed only six hits. Kamryn LaFosse (So., Lake Charles, La./Sam Houston) had a double, and Aleah Beaugez (Fr., D'Iberville/D'Iberville) the only RBI.

Gulf Coast committed three errors to contribute to three unearned runs, but Harrell took the loss despite throwing a three-hitter.

The Bulldogs travel to the Florida Panhandle on Tuesday to play Pensacola State. The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.

Gulf Coast will play its first home games in the MGCCC Invitational starting Feb. 9. The Bulldogs will play Lamar State-Port Arthur and Coastal Alabama-South.
