Highland Men's Basketball Wins Close KJCCC Contest Over KCK

It was another battle in the KJCCC but the #4 Highland men's basketball team stayed on course to win a Conference title by holding on for the win against Kansas City Kansas CC.

Scotties held off KCK seeing the Blue Devils final shot opportunities go awry giving Highland a 60-59 win. The win pushes Highland to 26-2 on the season and 8-1 in KJCCC play, while moving their win streak at home to 17th straight games and giving the Scotties their seventh straight win over KCK.

The game opened up slow as the first bucket didn't come until two minutes and 20 seconds into the contest when KCK took a 2-0 lead. Scotties didn't get on the board until the 16:01 mark of the first half as Andre Jackson converted a layup. It remained tight in the first half with Highland going up by as many as 11 in the first by using an 8-0 run to lead 27-16 with 3:29 left in the first half and at intermission Highland took a 31-24 lead into the locker room.

KCK opened the second half on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 31-31 just a minute and half into the second half. The game from that point on was a see-saw affair going back and forth with multiple ties including at 45-45 with 9:56 left in the game, 56-56 with 4:28 left in the contest and 59-59 with 1:42 remaining as Tristen Hull hit a pair of free throws to tie the game. With 55 seconds left Jaquan Daniels was fouled on a three-pointer and made one of three free throws giving the Scotties the 60-59 lead. KCK and the ball for the final shot with 11.8 seconds left and had a layup attempted that was altered by the Scotties giving Highland the 60-59 win.

While the Scotties struggled from the floor shooting just 35.1% Highland won the rebounding battle 41-32 and had only seven turnovers in the matchup.

Taiveyhon Mason was the only Scotties player to notch double figures scoring 16 points adding four assists and three rebounds. Hull grabbed 10 rebounds in the win adding nine points, while Jackson tallied nine points and had four rebounds.
