No. 14-ranked Dodge City knocks off Lady Tigers 69-51

The Cowley College women's basketball team continued to find wins hard to come by on the road as they lost at No. 14-ranked Dodge City by a score of 69-51 on Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers have dropped five games in a row, with three of those defeats coming on the road.

After falling behind 10-2 early in Wednesday's contest, Cowley would pull within 10-8 after one-quarter of play. The Lady Tigers would go in front 16-13 following a basket by freshman Jaiden Smith with five minutes left in the first half before the Conquistadors regrouped to take a 26-20 halftime lead.

As has been the case during its current skid, things fell apart for Cowley over the game's final 20 minutes of play. Dodge City outscored Cowley 28-14 to lead 54-34 after three quarters of play.

"We were not very good in the third quarter," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. "Credit to Dodge, they shot it well."

The Conquistadors would lead by as many as 27 points (69-42) before settling for the 69-51 win.

The loss drops Cowley's record to 7-5 overall and 1-5 in the Jayhawk Conference. Cowley was led by sophomore Anna Przyszlak's 17 points and eight rebounds. Smith added 10 points, and Ndack Mbengue finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Dodge City (11-1), winners of five games in a row, is now 5-1 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Conquistadors were led by Layla Cameron's 21 points and eight rebounds. Cameron hit four of Dodge City's 12 three-pointers.

The road will not get any easier for the Lady Tigers as they will finish the first semester by playing at No. 11-ranked Hutchinson Community College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Dragons are 11-0 overall and tied with Butler for first place in the conference with a record of 5-0.

"We have to try and regroup and get ourselves ready for Saturday," Clark said. "It would be nice to give ourselves something to feel good about heading into the break."
