The Indian Hills women (0-0-2) are coming off back-to-back ties at the IHCC Classic while the Indian Hills men (2-0-0) picked up two victories at the IHCC Classic.

Originally scheduled for an afternoon start on Friday vs. Johnson County, the men will now kick off at 8:00 PM while the women are set for a 10:00 PM start due to excessive heat in the Overland Park area throughout the day on Friday.

WOMEN'S NOTES

The Warrior women, ranked No. 14 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll, enter the weekend after a strong showing against a pair of nationally ranked opponents at the IHCC Classic. Indian Hills picked up a 1-1 draw with No. 19 Illinois Central Community College before holding No. 16 Motlow State College (TN) to a scoreless draw. Freshman Gabi Camargo (Bogotá, Colombia/Colegio Justo Victor Charry) provided the lone goal for the Warriors while freshman María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) allowed just one goal in 180 minutes of action to earn the two results, including the complete game shutout vs. Motlow.

The Warriors will matchup with Johnson County for the second consecutive year after defeating the Cavaliers 1-0 in the 2022 IHCC Classic. Friday's matchup is just the second all-time meeting between the two clubs.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

The Johnson County women are off to a 1-1-0 start after a pair of matches in Arizona to kick off the season. The Cavaliers fell in the season opener to NJCAA DII No. 1 nationally ranked and defending national champions Phoenix College (AZ) 3-1. Johnson County followed up with a 1-0 win over Scottsdale Community College (AZ).

The team's leading scorer from a year ago, Megan Everhart provided one of the two goals scored for the Cavaliers in Arizona last weekend. Maddox Fergus and Frankie Williams both made a start in net for the Cavaliers while Fergus pitched the shutout vs. Scottsdale.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS

The Vikings are competing at the NJCAA DII level for the first time in program history after previously competing at the NJCAA DIII level. Jefferson opened the 2023 season with an 8-0 loss to Northwest Mississippi Community College.

MEN'S NOTES

The No. 17 nationally ranked Warrior men put together a solid effort on the opening weekend to start the seasons with two wins for the first time since 2019. Indian Hills picked up a 4-1 win over Southwestern Illinois College behind a brace each from Gustavo Marques (São Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Anglo Indaiatuba) and Fernando Pirri (Cordoba, Spain/IES Francisco de los Rios). The Warriors followed up with a 1-0 shutout against Marshalltown Community College as sophomore Kaz Kromwijk (Schenkeldijk, Netherlands/Stedelijk Dalton Lyceum Kaptynweg) picked up the clean sheet and two victories. Nasser Benbella (Casablanca, Morocco/Al Khansa) provided the lone goal in the win for the Warriors.

The men also matched up with Johnson County in last year's IHCC Classic, a contest that saw the Cavaliers battle to a 4-3 victory in Ottumwa. Prior to the 2022 meeting, the two sides had met just once previously – a 12-0 Indian Hills victory in 2017. Friday's matchup will be the Warriors' first-ever trip to Overland Park.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

Ranked No. 15 in the preseason NJCAA DII Men's Soccer poll, the Cavaliers opened the season with a 1-1-0 record after an early season trip to Arizona. Johnson County fell 4-2 to NJCAA DII No. 4 Phoenix before upending Scottsdale 6-1.

Sophomore Jacksyn McIntyre, the team's second-leading scorer from a year ago, has tallied three goals in the opening two matches this year, including both scores vs. Phoenix. Freshman Brody Macoubrie has served as the team's primary goalie, playing all 180 minutes this season with nine saves.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS

Jefferson, ranked No. 18 in the NJCAA DI preseason poll, dropped its season opener to Heartland Community College (IL) 3-0 on August 18.

The Warriors are looking for their first-ever win over the Vikings in five previous meetings. Jefferson previously defeated Indian Hills 3-2 in last year's NJCAA Midwest District Tournament and 2-1 in a regular season contest in 2021.
