KJCCC Kansas MTXE Baseball Athletes of the Week, Week 13, 2018

With a 24-year drought on the line, freshman Zach Curry hurled a two-hit twelve strikeout performance Saturday versus Butler in clinching Barton's first Jayhawk West title since 1994.  Curry kept Butler completely out of the game, sending the Grizzlies down in order four straight innings before a leadoff fifth inning single broke up the perfect game no-no. A two-out base hit would be the final single on the Ottawa, Kansas, native in ending the threat with his then ninth strikeout. Surrendering just the two base hits, Curry went the distance improving to 6-0 in facing just two batters over the minimum finishing with a career high twelve strikeouts and incredible command of no wild pitches nor walks.

Johnson County Community College freshman first baseman Malik Williams batted .550 (12-for-20) with two double, three home runs, seven runs scored and nine run driven in to power the Cavaliers to a 4-2 week.  He produced multiple hits in five of the six games played last week. He also committed just one error in 45 fielding chances. For the season, Williams leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference and 12th in the NJCAA with 16 home runs.
