KJCCC West Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Week 5

KJCCC West Player of the Week: Cody Gunderson – Hutchinson Community College
Sophomore Cody Gunderson hit two home runs, including a two-run go-ahead blast in Game 3 vs. Coffeyville to lead the Blue Dragons to a four-game sweep of Coffeyville. Gunderson was 6 for 11 (.545 batting average) with four extra-base hits – two doubles and two homers. He had 11 total RBIs and slugged 1.273 for the week. In Game 3, Gunderson hit two go-ahead home runs – a solo shot in the first for a 2-1 lead and a two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth that broke a 3-all tie. Gunderson had multiple RBIs in each game of the four-game series, 

KJCCC West Pitcher of the Week: Reece Hemmerling – Barton Community College
Making just his second start of the season Reece Hemmerling tossed his way to his first collegiate complete game shutout Barton's series opening 6-0 win over NIACC. The sophomore worked three separate 1-2-3 innings with the first coming in the opening frame needing just six pitches. Concluding his seven-inning line, Hemmerling scattered a trio of hits, two walks and fanned a season high seven in improving to 2-0 on the year.
