Raheem Boyd, Independence, rushed for 133 yards on 18 attempts in a road victory versus Dodge City. While averaging 7.3 yards per carry, Boyd also scored three touchdowns.
Freshman punt returner Marcus Edwards averaged 17.3 yards per punt return and kept the Blue Dragons in good field position in a 42-14 victory over Iowa Central. The numbers would have been even more impressive, but a penalty wiped out a 72 yard punt return.
Warren Saba saved the game late for Garden City. With Butler threatening to take the lead in the fourth, it was Saba intercepting Chris Helbig and returning it 43 yards to the Butler 3. Three plays later, Terry Wilson hit Daniel Davis for the clinching touchdown. Saba also had a 64-yard interception return in the first half that setup Garden City's first score.
