Independence running back Rakeem Boyd ended the regular season with a stellar performance against Pirate rival Coffeyville. Boyd had 34 carries for 303 yards, and scored on one touchdown run.
Freshman cornerback Jerry Jacobs played a major role in the Blue Dragons' 27-6 road victory at Dodge City on Saturday. Jacobs had five solo tackles, two for loss. He also recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass with the Conquistadors driving deep into Hutch territory. His biggest impact came when he returned a blocked field goal 86 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first half to give Hutchinson a 13-0 lead. Jacobs now has five interceptions this season.
Return specialist Marcus Edwards averaged 18.7 yards on six kickoff returns and then had a 53-yard punt return for a touchdown in Hutchinson's 27-6 road win at Dodge City. Edwards accounted for 148 all-purpose yards.
