Dedrick Mills had a huge game with a league-high 267 rushing yards on 24 carries to lead Garden City to a 52-24 victory over Dodge City in the Broncbusters' season opener. Mills ran for three touchdowns and averages 11.1 yards per carry with a long of 57 yards.

Damarion Williams helped preserve a 17-10 win for Highland against Ellsworth with his defensive performance in the secondary. Williams broke up the final two passes attempts by Ellsworth in the end zone at the end of the game allowing the Scotties to hold on for the 17-10 road win. He also had a pair of interceptions that ended two other potential scoring drives by Ellsworth as he picked off a pass in the end zone and another on the one-yard as Ellsworth was in the red zone. The Scotties win over Ellsworth improves them to 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2006.

Ryan Schemtob nailed a school record 50-yard field goal in the 17-10 win over Ellsworth on the road. The field goal broke the school record by four-yards and tied the game at 3-3 late in the first half. Ryan was also a perfect 2-2 on extra points in the comeback win over Ellsworth and had four kickoffs with three touchbacks and an average of 63.8 yards per kickoff. He leads the KJCCC in yards per kickoff (63) and is currently tied with the longest field goal made in the Nation. The Scotties win over Ellsworth improves them to 2-0 to start a season for the first time since 2006.
