BUTLER, GARDEN PLAYERS EARN KJCCC WEEKLY HONORS

Week 5 KJCCC Football Player of the Week winners:
Offense - Brock Sturges, Butler
Defense - Willie Hampton, Garden City
Special Teams - Jacob Abel, Butler

Butler running back Brock Sturges won his second straight KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week honor for Week No. 5. Gardne City linebacker Willie Hampton was the league's Defensive Player of the Week and Butler kicker/punter Jacob Abel was the KJCCC Special Teams Player of the Week.

OFFENSE - Brock Sturges, Butler
Brock Sturges, the freshman running back from Allen, TX, backed up last week's performance with another big offensive outing. Sturges rushed for 143 yards on 18 carries with an average of 7.9 yards per rush and scored one touchdown on the ground with his longest rush totaling 48 yards. He had one reception on the night but it was a big one going for 50 yards for the score. Sturges had more all-purpose yards (193) than Dodge City had total offensive yards (185). Sturges still leads the NCJAA in rushing touchdowns with seven as well as total rushing yards at 605.

DEFENSE - Willie Hampton, Garden City
Willie Hampton set the tempo from the start. The sophomore recorded back-to-back sacks during a dominating second quarter. He finished 14 tackles, his third double-digit stop game of the year, leading a defense that held Iowa Western to a season-low 198 total yards.

SPECIAL TEAMS - Jacob Abel, Butler
Jacob Abel, sophomore kicker from Goddard, KS, was a perfect 5/5 in the kicking game Saturday night on a wet and windy night. Abel drilled a 32-yard FG in the third quarter giving Butler a 24-21 lead. He finished a perfect 4/4 on extra points scoring a total of seven points for the Grizzlies. Abel also had three punts in the game with an average of 30.3 yards per punt pinning one inside the 20.
