Day Three Recap - Region VI Basketball From Hartman Arena
The third day of the Region Vi Basketball Championships had two women's games and two men's games. All four match-ups provided athletic plays and individual performances.
Game 1
PARK CITY -- The Independence Pirates advanced to the Region VI Championship Game for the first time in six years after a 70-50 victory over Hutchinson on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pirates took advantage of Hutchinson's 29 turnovers and dominated the second half after a one-point lead at intermission. Independence was led by Erica Moore's 16 points. Hutch was led by Tia Bradshaw's 11 points.
Independence will face the winner of Seward/Cowley on Wednesday evening at 5 PM inside of Park City's Hartman Arena.
Game 2
PARK CITY -- The Region VI women's basketball championship is officially set after the Seward Saints defeated Cowley, 67-59 in Tuesday's semifinal game.
The Saints were led by Mollie Mounsey's 24 points and eight rebounds, while Cowley was led by Brenda Silva's 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Seward will play in Wednesday's Region VI championship game set for 5 PM at Hartman Arena in Park City. This will be the third straight championship appearance for the Saints.
Game 3
PARK CITY -- The Hutchinson Blue Dragons will be in familiar territory on Wednesday night, as they will play in their sixth consecutive Region VI Championship Game after a 74-69 win over Barton.
The Blue Dragons were once again led by James Rojas' 22 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Barton was led by Kawanise Wilkins' 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Hutchinson will face the winner of Coffeyville/Garden City on Wednesday night at 7 PM for the Region VI title and the right to represent the region in the upcoming NJCAA National Tournament.
Game 4
PARK CITY -- The Region VI Men's Championship is set after the Coffeyville Red Ravens defeated the Garden City Broncbusters, 65-57 in Tuesday evening's semifinal game.
Coffeyville was led by Marvin Johnson's 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win, while Garden City was paced by Kendale Hampton's 24 points.
The No. 1 Red Ravens will meet No. 2 Hutchinson in the Region VI Championship on Wednesday night at 7 PM at Hartman Arena.
