KJCCC Men's Division II Basketball Athlete of the Week, Week 14

The #5 Highland men's basketball team continued to sit atop the KJCCC standings going 2-0 last week with road wins against Hesston and Labette to move to 25-2 on the season and 7-1 in KJCCC play. Sophomore, Taiveyhon Mason posted double figures in both wins. Mason notched 19 points on 6-13 from the floor in the road route of Labette adding a 5-6 night from the free throw line, while grabbing six rebounds, dishing three assists and posting two steals. He followed that up with a 28 point performance in the win over Hesston going 9-17 from the floor and 9-12 from the free line, including free throws down the stretch to help secure the win. Mason added seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. 

On the year Mason is averaging 20.9 points per game and 22.5 points per game in Conference play. The sophomore is shooting 56.5% on the season, while averaging 3.7 rebounds, three assists and 2.6 steals per game. Mason leads the Conference in points per game, total points scored, field goals made, steals per game and total steals, while ranking second in made free throws and fourth in field goal percentage. He ranks sixth in the Nation in made field goals with 216 on the season and checks in eighth in the Nation in total steals, along with ranking 10th in total points scored.
