Men's Division II Basketball All-Conference Teams Honored

2021-22 KJCCC D-II Men's Basketball Awards - ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS (PDF)

Nominated and voted upon by conference coaches, the 2021-22 Division II Men's Basketball postseason selections were headlined by Most Valuable Player Ed Wright of Allen, Newcomer of the Year Tymer Jackson of Johnson County, Freshman of the Year Micah Jones of Neosho County, two-time Defensive Player of the Year Jaland Whitehead of Johnson County and Coach of the Year Andy Shaw of Allen.

Most Valuable Player:  Ed Wright – Allen Community College

Ed Wright was the leading scorer the conference this season, pouring in 19.1 points per game.  He finished in double figures in 23games, with four games over 30 points.  He was third in the conference with 62 made 3-point baskets, and led the D-II conference with 102 made free throws. Wright demonstrated why the coaches picked him as the MVP during the Region 6 playoffs where he averaged 29.3 points per game while shooting 47% from the floor and 57% from the 3-point line. He scored 34 points in the Region Championship game to lead the Red Devils to a championship, the first in school history since 1924. During the season Wright was selected the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times.

Newcomer of the Year: Tymer Jackson – Johnson County Community College

Tymer Jackson transferred to Johnson County this season and proved to be a big addition to their lineup. The 6-2 guard finished second in the conference in scoring with an average of 18.3 points per game. He was also second in made free throws with 91, fifth in free throw percentage at 77.9 and sixth in 3-point baskets with 56. Jackson scored in double figures 25 times, and had topped 10+ rebounds 12 times. During the season Jackson was selected the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week four times.

Freshman of the Year: Micah Jones – Neosho County Community College

Neosho County guard Micah Jones finished his rookie campaign as the third leading scorer in the conference, averaging 17.7 per game. He also not only led the conference but the NJCAA making 109 3-point baskets, an average of nearly four per game. He scored in double figures 23 times highlighted by a 33-point effort that included 10 treys in an 87-70 win over Highland.

Defensive Player of the Year: Jaland Whitehead – Johnson County Community College

For the second consecutive season Johnson County forward Jaland Whitehead finished the regular season as the top rebounder in the conference, and No. 2 shot blocker. Whitehead pulled down 245 rebounds for an average of 10.8 per game. His 345 total rebounds rank second in the NJCAA and his game average is 10th-best. He also blocked 40 shots, along with averaging 12.2 points per game. He scored in double figures 20 times, topped 10+ rebounds 20 times which resulted in 17 double-doubles. He closed out his career with a school record 30 double-doubles. Whitehead was named the KJCCC D-II Player of the Week in week 6.

Coach of the Year: Andy Shaw – Allen Community College

Playing in the KJCCC Division II Conference for the first time, 10-year veteran coach Andy Shaw guided Allen to a conference championship, a region championship, and a berth to the NJCAA D-II National Tournament. This is the program's ninth conference title, and the first region championship since 1924, a span of 86 years. His Red Devils stand 27-5 entering the tournament and were ranked 14th in the final NJCAA D-II Poll.
