Northwest Tech Men Win National Half Marathon Title

(NW Tech Sports Information) Tallahassee FL. – Northwest Tech Cross Country return from Nationals, placing 3rd in the NJCAA Division 1 Men's Cross Country Championship and 1st in the NJCAA Men's Half-Marathon Championship. The Championships took place on Nov. 12th and Nov. 15th. Both placements are the highest in school history for Northwest Tech. 

This year's Men's Cross Country Team started where they left off, improving two places in the Cross Country Championship and one place in the Half-Marathon Championship. Additionally, Coach Evans Kiptoo was awarded Coach of the Meet for the Men's Half-Marathon. "Our cross country team and coach made college history with their hard work and determination," said NT President Ben Schears. "we couldn't be more proud of the national title they brought home."

Here is a brief rundown from Nationals: Colby Community College claimed the NJCAA Division 1 Cross Country Title with 38 points, Iowa Central Community College placed 2nd with 115 points, and Northwest Tech placed 3rd with 126 points. In the Men's Half-Marathon, Northwest Tech narrowly placed first after tying with El Paso Community College (18 points), with Tech's fourth-place runner (Nathan Kipyego) breaking the tie and claiming Northwest Tech's first Team National Title. The Mavericks had four All-America runners between the two races. 

"This year has been a blessing to me as a coach," commented Coach Kiptoo. "This group of runners worked hard all year and now it has paid off. I have greatly enjoyed coaching them and look forward to what they'll accomplish next year."
