KJCCC Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week, Wk. 8

This is the second time in the last three weeks Hutchinson sweeps the women's soccer awards.  Two-time recipient Naomi Waithira and 4-time Chiara Soergel lift the Blue Dragons to a pair of victories this week keeping Hutchinson in the chase for a Jayhawk West title. 

Sophomore midfielder Naomi Waithira continued her tremendous play with an 11-point week in two Blue Dragon victories. Against Hesston, Waithira had two goals and a career-high four assists for a career-high eight-point game in an 8-0 win over Hesston College. She then scored the game-winner and added an assist in a 6-0 win over Dodge City. Waithira now has 15 points (5 goals, 5 assists) in her last three games. She leads the KJCCC with 15 assists. Now with 29 career assists, Waithira is tied for fourth on the Blue Dragon all-time assist list.

Chiara Soergel earned shutout Nos. 10 and 11 in a 2-0 week for the Blue Dragons. Soergel didn’t make a save in an 8-0 win at Hesston College and then had three saves in a 6-0 win over Dodge City. Soergel is now 11-2 with 11 shutouts. She has a league-leading 0.25 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Soergel has already set the Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper record for shutouts and is second on the single-season list.
