CHARLOTTE, NC – Battles of ranked teams last week within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has led to changes and shakeups among the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 women's soccer top-20 polls released for week six on Monday, October 7th.
Despite seeing changes within the rankings themselves, the conference still has six teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the latest rankings of the season with three of the six teams ranked in the top 10. Among those in the top 10 is Kansas City Kansas Community College who made a two spot jump in the latest NJCAA Division 1 women's soccer poll by climbing up to seventh after handing Butler their first loss of the season this past Saturday to move up for their highest ranking of the season. The Grizzlies fall two spots with the loss to now be ranked eighth and still lead the KJCCC Division 1 standings with 28 total points, one point ahead of the Blue Devils. Just outside the top-10 following a one-spot improvement is Cowley to be ranked 11th following a pair of wins last week while Hutchinson also made a two-spot improvement in the polls by moving up to 16th as the Blue Dragons have allowed just one total goal in their past three games.
The NJCAA Division 2 women's soccer poll sees no change for Johnson County who remains ranked number two with a 10-0-3 record to sit only behind Northwest Mississippi Community College as the Rangers continue their run as the only team in NJCAA Division 2 to win all of their contests played this season with a 10-0-0 record. The Cavaliers are now just one of three teams in the poll that have not suffered a loss this season, joined by top-ranked Northwest Mississippi and number 15 ranked St. Charles Community College (9-0-1). Neosho County drops out of the poll this week but is receiving votes after playing just one match last week, a 5-0 loss to number two Johnson County.
With no action within the KJCCC until Wednesday this week for women's soccer teams, this week's schedule will be highlighted by number 8 Butler taking on number 16 Hutchinson in Hutchinson on Wednesday evening before seeing the Grizzlies play host to number 11 Cowley on Saturday evening. On the Division 2 side, number two Johnson County will make the trip to Iola to take on Allen County on Wednesday afternoon in a battle of the top two teams in the KJCCC Division 2 standings before returning home to take on Hesston Saturday evening.
