KJCCC Kansas MTXE D1 Volleyball Athletes of the Week, Week 8, 2017
Bailey Martinez, Garden City, entered her sophomore season determined to be just as good if not better of a defensive threat than she was last year. This past week she performed in three matches each time improving and being a huge part to her team's success. She started off the week with 14 digs against KWU only to improve two days later with 21 against Pratt. Then she ended the week with a season high of 35 digs against Dodge City. She averaged 6.36 digs this week.
Giovanna Kuntze, Seward County, made the most of her playing this team, racking up 78 assists in only seven sets played. While she paced the Lady Saints all week, she made her attacks count as well, hitting .429 in the three matches. She also came away with over 2.5 digs per set.
Giovanna Tapigliani helped lead the Seward County Lady Saints to three straight sweeps last weeks with a team high 39 kills on the week. Her 19 kills against Dodge City were the most by a Lady Saint in a three-set match since 2007, when sets went to 30 points. She finished the week with 4.3 kills per set, connecting on nearly half of her attempts, hitting .493.
