KJCCC West VOLLEYBALL Athletes of the Week, Week 4
Sophomore right side Giovanna Tapigliani was instrumental this week as the Lady Saints came up with important wins over (RV) Yavapai and No. 4 Salt Lake. In the two matches against the ranked opponents, she came away with 34 kills and just two errors. She also finished with her first double-double of the season, and 11th of her career, against Chandler-Gilbert, finishing with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Laura De Pra continues to set at a record pace, racking up 196 more assists this week. In the 3-1 win over (RV) Yavapai, De Pra had an astounding 64 assists, breaking the previous record of 54 in a four-set match in the rally era. The 64 assists comes out to the 2nd most all-time in a single-match in Seward history, trailing only the 67 assist performance by Alex Droogsma in 2006, which occurred in a five-set match.
A week after setting her career-high in digs, Nathiellen Machado re-set it by recording 28 digs in the revenge win over (RV) Yavapai. The sophomore libero helped hold down the defensive side for the Lady Saints as they extended their win streak to 10 matches.
