KJCCC West VOLLEYBALL Athletes of the Week, Week 5
Reining National Player of the Week Giovanna Tapigliani continued to display her dominance this past week. At the Blue Dragon Classic, Tapigliani helped power the Lady Saints past No. 2 Iowa Western with 23 kills and just two attacking errors, good for a hitting percentage of .618. With her performances this week, she now ranks 5th in the country in attacking percentage.
Laura De Pra didn't miss a beat this weekend as she helped pace the Seward offense to three wins over top 20 opponents, including an upset over No. 2 Iowa Western. To go along with her 193 assists on the week, she finished with 9 kills and 18 digs.
After a slow start to the week, Luz Sierra turned it on during Saturday's match as the 6-6 middle hitter went on a blocking frenzy. Sierra helped push the Lady Saints past No. 2 Iowa Western with a great third set performance, at one point recording four straight blocks to propel Seward to a 3-1 victory. In the win over MSU-West Plains, Sierra was the spark the Lady Saints needed, helping Seward overcome a 20-17 third set deficit by racking up four straight points to give Seward a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
