Beatrice, NE- The Highland Men's basketball team got win number 10 on the season after defeating Central Community College- Columbus 91-82 in Day One of the Southeast CC Classic.
Highland jumped out to a quick 15-point lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half controlling the glass and holding the Raiders to only 30% shooting.
Holden Redparth scored 13 of his 29 points in the first half to help the Scotties take an 18-point lead into the break.
Again, Highland controlled the first 10 minutes of the second half leading the Raiders by 22 with 10:31 to play in the game.
The Raiders still had some fight left as they pieced together a 17-3 run the over the next four minutes cutting the Scottie lead to single digits with Highland leading 70-64. That would be the closest the Raiders could get to the Scotties as Highland knocked down 11-13 free throws in the final minutes to win the game 91-82.
Holden Redparth led all scorers posting a double-double with 29 points and 13 rebounds.
Taiveyhon Mason was the only other Scottie in double figures scoring 13 points and dishing out seven assists. Other scoring came from
Ryan Haskins with nine points,
James Caldwell and
Jaylin Rutherford both finished with eight points and
Dylan Owen added in seven points.
The Scotties are back in Beatrice on Saturday for Day Two of the Southeast CC Classic, this time taking on the Storm of Southeast at 6:00pm.
